Company Highlights the Worldâs First Plasma HDTVs with Integrated High-Definition DVR and First Digital Media Recorder Powered by Windows® Media Center Technologies
NEW YORK, Aug. 2, 2005 â The worldâs first plasma HDTVs with a built-in high-definition digital video recorder (HD-DVR), the first Digital Media Recorder powered by Windows® Media Center Technologies, and a stunning new 55-inch LCD HDTV monitor highlight the hot consumer electronics products from LG Electronics for the 2005 holiday season, the company said today.
Epitomizing the companyâs 2005 marketing theme, âLG: Lifeâs Good,â these and other cutting-edge products were demonstrated tonight during LGâs summer line tour â an exclusive gala-by-the-sea event, aboard the Lady Windridge private yacht. At this pre-holiday season preview, the company showcased its broad product portfolio, including its digital displays, digital audio/video products, home appliances and mobile phones.

In addition to the combination plasma-HD-DVR HDTVs and the Digital Media Recorder, other hot holiday products previewed during the summer line tour include wireless liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs, super-multi DVD recorders and home theater audio systems:
50- and 60-inch Plasma Integrated HDTVs with Built-In High-Definition Digital Video Recorders LGâs PY2DR Series ((Model 50PY2DR (50-inch) and 60PY2DR (60-inch)): â The worldâs first plasma HDTV with integrated HD-DVR features all the benefits of a plasma HDTV combined with a HD-DVR built into a ultra-thin cabinet. It can easily record, pause and playback live TV on its 160-gigabyte hard drive, which stores up to 13 hours of digital high-definition programming or 63 hours of standard-definition programming. The PY2DR also features the convenience of TV Guide on-screen® interactive program guide which displays eight days of program information. The unit is also Digital Cable Ready, which eliminates the need for a separate cable set-top box. Combined with the built-in 9-in-2 multi memory card readers, users can store digital photos or music from their digital camera, or MP3 player onto the hard drive that can further be organized and saved for future viewing and listening. Available now, 50PY2DR and 60PY2DR have a manufacturerâs suggested retail price of $7,999 and $14,999, respectively.
Digital Media Recorder (Model LRM-519):
The first combination DVR/DVD recorder powered by Windows® Media Center Technology. The LRM-519 features a 160-hour recording capacity DVR with access to the Microsoft® Program Guide service. The Digital Media Recorder gives consumers the freedom to enjoy more entertainment where and when they want it; as they can watch, record, and pause live TV, burn DVDs of their favorite TV shows and can integrate into a home network to share TV content, photos and music with their Windows XP and Windows XP Media Center Edition âbased PCs. Manufacturerâs suggested retail price of $699.95. Microsoft Program Guide service subscriptions are available for a $249.95 one-time fee, or $9.99 per month. The product will be available beginning in October 2005.
55-inch LCD HDTV Monitor (55LP1D):
This award-winning direct-view liquid crystal display (LCD) features a progressive scan display of 1920 x 1080p â the highest resolution currently available on any HDTV display worldwide â which provides an incredibly sharp viewing experience. Perfect for premium home and commercial applications demanding the highest quality image is essential, the unit has a contrast ratio of 1200:1 and brightness of 500 cd/m2. The 15LW1R also integrates into a home network, allowing access to pictures and music stored on a remote PC. With a manufacturerâs suggested retail price of $1,199, this unit receives crystal clear images and is PC and video game safe.
Super-Multi DVD Recorder & VCR (Model LRY-517):
LGâs Super-Multi DVD Recorder & VCR is an all-in-one system that supports all available DVD recording formats â offering a wide array of recording options, as well as VCR recording/playback features. The LRY-517 also has an integrated 8-in-2 memory card reader, supporting a wide range of memory cards to display digital photos. The unitâs innovative âone-touch dubbingâ allows consumers to transfer content from VHS to DVD disc recording or from un-copyrighted DVD disc to VHS with just one touch of a button. Its IEEE1394 DV input provides enhanced connectivity to a wide-range of audio/video products. The unit also incorporates progressive-scan technology and 3D surround sound, providing clear images and robust sounds for an excellent home theater experience. Available now, it has a manufacturerâs suggested retail price of $449.
DVD Recorder and VCR Home-Theater-in-a-Box (HTiB) (Model LHY-518):
This complete home theater system is also a full multimedia station, offering a HTiB that incorporates a DVD recorder, DVD player, VCR and 1200W 5.1 satellite speaker system with advanced digital connectivity. Connections include a 7-in-2 memory card reader and IEEE 1394 input for convenient DV recording. Progressive-scan video output maximizes DVD picture quality when used with a compatible TV or monitor.
